  1. I didn't continue watching the whole thing, but what amazed me most is the interest of the people in movies and how they escaped everything just in order to watch the same movie over and over again. More specifically, I liked how passionate Salvatore (toto) was about knowing how movies were projected in cinemas. I even enjoyed how toto took advantage of everything to learn about Alfredo's job. However, what i liked the most was Salvatore's loyalty to Alfredo and his willingness to be in charge of the cinemas after Alfredo's accident.

  2. Cinema Paradiso is not the kind of movies that I usually like to watch and though it attracted my attention. It was a movie that had all sorts of events: dramatic, nostalgic, overwhelming, funny...The little Salvatore, nicknamed toto, was really clever enough to achieve all his ambitions. He wanted to learn how to operate the film projectors and so he did with the help of his beloved Alfredo. Alfredo was like the father that toto lost because of the second world war. Eventhough Toto was sometimes naughty and triggered Alfredo´s fury with his missbehaviors, he really loved him and followed his advice. Both, Alfredo and Toto, had a mutual care for each other. At the beginning, Alfredo didn´t want to teach toto how to manage the projectors because he didn´t want him to have such a work whom he considered to be mediocre. Alfredo had higher expectations for toto. When the movie house was catched in fire, with Alfredo still inside, the little toto saved him and was not afraid of anything because his love for Alfredo was bigger than his fear. Toto became an adolescent and had love dissapointments and that´s when Alfredo urged him to leave and search for better opportunities for in his village there was no chance to achieve success. And so he did, Toto left and never came back but to be present at the funeral of Alfredo. When the good of a person is even more important than your own good, it means that you really love this person. This was the case of Alfredo who despite adoring Toto, was able to give up everything, to even not see him anymore, just because he knew that that was better for his future. So that´s what I liked the most about this story, eventhough Alfredo and Toto weren´t father and son, their relationship reflected the strong bond that just a family can have.

  3. I didn't continue the movie, but the movie itself did attract me. Salvatore (Toto) is an intelligent boy who likes to learn everything. For example, his desire to learn Alfredo's job and how projection works although Alfredo does not want Toto to learn such a job as he wants Toto to get education. As i liked as well is Toto's helping Alfredo to escape from the fire that took place in the cinema and Toto's devotion to take Alfredo's job after the incident and the blindness that caused Alfredo. This shows how strong the relation between Alfredo and Toto is and how much they love each other.

  4. i did not continue the whole movie, but cinema paradiso did attract me from the first second it started. i loved how a little boy has his own strong personality to stay on what he wants.it was very touching when Toto helped Alfredo in the fire and later they show us Alfredo talking to Toto when he grew up. it is very nice how Toto took the chance to be in the place of Alfredo when he got blind.1 hr and 30 minutes from this movie was enough for me to say that i was amazed watching it.

  5. Cinema paradiso was a catchy movie that took place in Europe .The setting was amazing such as the old places (old school ,having strict rules with tough teachers ,moreover observing how hard was to run a movie in those days .Salvadore Was not like any normal kid ,he was very active, alway make childless problem which make his mothe to be madd at him.salvadore the active child full of energy had an interest in operating film projection ,his only and only friend was Alfredo whoinsisted on salvadore to get educated and continue his education. The thing that moved me in this movie is that salvadore was raised without a father, this reveals to us the friendship between him and Alfredo ,since salvadore always tell Alfredo to describe his father he was very curious to know news about hi father.Their was a strong relationship between these two characteristics .lastly I liked this movie because it tokee us years back by having an idea how movies used to function.

  6. Cinema Paradiso grabbed my attention from the very first! It started as Salvatore returns home late one evening where his girlfriend tells him that his mother called and said that Alfredo has passed away. Apparently, Salvatore didn’t visit his village for a long time. As a matter of fact, he starts recalling flashbacks and nostalgic memories which cross his mind right away.

He was nicknamed Toto and used to be a lover of films .Approximately, he spent his whole time there at Cinema Paradiso and built a strong amiable relationship with the projectionist at that time, Alfredo. Frequently, the noise of the audience booing could be heard at that time whenever there were missing sections such as a sensitive romantic kiss or embrace. As a matter of fact, the priest has ordered this. And so, Toto started learning and acquiring experience from Alfredo in this domain. Once, the movie place got ignited .Toto saved Alfredo’s life; however, Alfredo became blind. Cinema Paradiso eventually got rebuilt by a town citizen who invested the football lottery in it. Salvatore became the new projectionist .He met Elena and fell in love with her before which he had to leave the village for compulsory military service. After he returned to the village, Alfredo recommended that Toto must leave to attain a better successful future and to achieve his goals and ambition. In other words, even though Alfredo knew that he would not see Toto anymore, he recommended that for Toto’s own good. This depicted an extremely friendly and caring relationship that existed between Alfredo and Toto which I really liked and got impressed by .And so, Toto left the village for several years to return and attend Alfredo’s funeral.

  7. Cinema Paradiso was a very depressing movie that i thought of leaving the class more than once , since it made me feel very sad . Somehow i stayed and i watched the whole movie , maybe because i was expecting a happy ending , which i did not get since the cinema was destroyed and the memories in it were taken away .

Cinema Paradiso begins with Toto sleeping on a rainy day and he get the news that a guy named Alfredo died . After that Toto's dead memories come back to life . He goes back to his village when he was a child ,in the village he was born and raised in . Alfredo was the closest thing Toto could have to replace his father who died during war . Alfredo worked in filming movies in a cinema . Toto learned from Alfredo how to film movies , and he was able to replace when Alfredo Lost his sight . Toto fell in love , but it did not last long since his love left the country for studies. Toto Also left the village and took Alfredo's advice , which is never coming back and forgetting about everybody in the village. But Alfredo's death did not stop Toto from not coming . Toto came back to his village after many years and began to remember many things .Finally Toto Stood there and watched the cinema where he spent all his childhood , trumble and crash into the ground . FINE

  8. No wonder it has won countless awards including the Oscar, cinema paradiso is the kind of movie that you would watch not only for the entertainment, but also to get acquainted with the lifestyle in an ordinary village in Italy back in the 80s. As a matter of fact, one could not hide his clear admiration for this movie, as it grabs your full attention mysteriously. The movie kicked off with a glance to the future of Toto away from his hometown. Hence, it could be realized from the moment he knew about Alfredo's death, he was overwhelmed with emotions and joyful, sorrowful, and mixed memories as he recalled thoroughly his extraordinary childhood. Tito's extreme love for movies and filming was truly massive as he fought off every intruding dilemma in order to learn and master what he liked the most, forcing Alfredo into helping him to do so. However, and away from details, the music, the order of events, and the events themselves were immaculately flawless which made the movie a great one, still watched almost 3 decades from its production.

  9. A movie that speaks of love and life’s dynamic change. It lays bare a heartfelt and honest relationship between a man and a boy. The movie is an expression of love in the purest of forms: A love of life, movies, people, and most importantly a love of time and place. Cinema Paradiso is more or less a mirrored image of the lives most of us lead. The aspects of our own life that scare us the most, and those we love the most.

My favorite part in the story was when Salvatore returns to his hometown; it was bittersweet. It’s amazing to see time work its magic. To see change right where you thought it was immutable. Salvatore came back to a dying city, one that could’ve enveloped him and drowned his own future.

  10. Cinema Paradiso provides an insight into the world of a little boy who grows up in a village that considers theatre to be a significant part of their daily lives. The story starts in the present as a mother is trying to contact her son Toto to deliver important news. Salvatore (Toto) receives the news that Alfredo died. The story goes back to his childhood as he remembers the time he spent with Alfredo. Alfredo was the town’s projectionist, and Toto grew interested in Alfredo’s work. Toto saves Alfredo’s life when the cinema catches fire, and from then on they grow closer. Alfredo becomes Toto’s mentor and the father figure that Toto never had. Toto then becomes the projectionist and falls in love with a girl who breaks his heart after he leaves for the military. Alfredo then tells Toto to leave the village and never look back. The only time Toto returns is to attend Alfredo’s funeral.
The best part of the movie was when Toto was watching the films that Alfredo left for him. What was so emotional about this part was that these scenes were the only tangible things left from his past. Alfredo was gone, cinema paradiso was nothing but remains, and the love of his life was never coming back.

  12. I don't usually like watching movies such as Cinema Paradiso. However, this movie impressed me. What grabbed my attention the most is the close relationship Toto and Alfredo had although Alfredo was not Toto's father. Alfredo used to treat Toto like his son and he used to care about him a lot which is why he asked Toto to leave the village. Even though Alfredo knew that if Toto leaves he wont be able to see him again, he didn't mind.He wanted Toto to leave in order to attain a better future since there was no chance of success in their village and therefore Toto left.He stayed away for more than 30 years but as soon as he heard the news about Alfredo's death he came immediately back to his village in order to be their for the funeral.in fact, This shows how much Toto loved Alfredo because he didn't even bother coming back to see his mother and sister, but came back when he heard about Alfredo's death. In addition, i really liked how Alfredo left all the hidden scenes for Toto to watch in the end of the movie, it was very touching.
Im really glad that i watched this movie because it really impressed me how someone can love a child as if he were his own son and care about him to an extent in which not seeing him in order to attain a successful life is not a problem.

  14. What I didn't like about the movie is the colors. Most of the time it is dark and you barely could see the expressions of the actors. It is true that this was because they are in the cinema paradiso most of the times but this make us somehow bored and we feel that we want to sleep. But what I really like about this movie is how at that time people gather together to do something in common which is whatching a movie. It was there only source of entertainment. The name paradiso showed more how they were fascinated by this theater.I also liked very much how salvador was introduced in the movie. They showed us an ambitions and brave child. He confronted the danger in order to save alfredo. The most touching part is the relationship between toto and alfredo. He was like a father to him. Alfredo replaced the missing part of his life which is his father who is not there for him. He tought him alot and they spent most of their time together. Alfredo was everything to toto. It is obvious that toto loved alfredo more than his own real family because he left his village and went in order to have a better future as alfredo told him. He hadn't see his mother for 30 years but once he knew about the death of alfredo he went back. Alfredo was the one who was pushing him to go he didn't want to restrict his chances in having a good job eventhough he knew deep inside that he would be hurted since he won't be able to see him again. The end of the story is impressive. All the cutted scenes of the movies were joined together and saved for toto. I liked this movie just because it showed us this wonderful and unconditional relationship that is hard to find

  15. Cinema Paradiso is truly a work of art. The story itself that emerges in a comedy drama style is really interesting and it fascinated me.
Although the film is really old and the photo quality is poor compared to our modern filming techniques, both the directing and the acting are highly professional.
What i loved the most about the film, is the way it depicted the friendship between "Toto " and "Alfredo". At first, a relationship between a child and an old man may look strange and unrealistic, but throughout the film many friendship aspects such as respect, fidelity and loyalty emerge and touch the viewer.
On the technical side, the music is charming and the camera angles are just perfect! The storyboard, the timeline and the scenario all add up to make Cinema Paradiso one remarkable classic!

  16. One word: great movie. Cinema Paradiso managed to gain my interest and attention. It's a movie that described a friendship that broke the barrier of age. It is charming to feel such a solid and intense friendship that even fire was not able to melt. It has succeeded also in describing the topography of Italia in that era, which made it an attracting movie.

  17. A movie that says it all, portrays a lot of different aspects of life in that small village in Italy and reveals how change is overwhelming no matter how much you resist it. From the change of audience perception of media (abandoning Cinema Paradiso), the change in church power and authority (when the cinema is no longer run by a man of the church), the social class differences (whereby the rich are accommodated differently), the change in political life (disdaining followers of Mussolini, the change in Alfredo’s life after the accident, to the change in Toto’s career and love life, the movie is timeless and teaches a philosophy in life to move on and adapt even when change is torturous. As to the favorite part of the movie, it is when Toto realizes that he still did not move on like Alfredo told him; his heart is still buried under the wreckage of Cinema Paradiso-the center of the world of his childhood. It is when his mother talks to him about how he has yet to form a steady life and a family of his own. Another touching moment is the walk to the cemetery through town, where the camera had an outstanding angle to show how the faces of his childhood changed, and how Cinema Paradiso was abandoned.

  18. I really enjoyed watching this movie, for i dont usually watch movies of this kind. I watched how the relationship between Alfredo and toto grew more and more and they cared for each other. Alfredo was like a father figure to toto. It also shows a lot of events and how people used to think and act in the previous years and how some things were banned in movies like kissing, and movies were black and white. People used to appreciate film movies back in the days, as we could tell they kept going on and on to watch the same movie. The movie also showed how change occurs over the passing year and things evolve and people change they move on... I enjoyed the movie it was different.

  19. “Cinema Paradiso” is a movie that narrates the life of a young Italian boy named Salvatore Di Vita (Toto) during World War II highlighting the kind of culture Italy had at that time. When Toto was young , he was a very curious and ambitious kid. He was attracted to music and movies ever since he was a small child, where his mom would find him in his sister’s room glued to the radio. Toto had joy in annoying and pranking people, especially Alfredo, who at some point prevented Toto from entering the Cinema for his bad behaviors. Alfredo needed Toto’s help to pass an exam. Toto agreed to assist him only if he teaches him how to edit and play movies. After this agreement, and despite the great age difference between them, Alfredo and Toto got very close. When fire broke up in Cinema Paradiso, Toto was the first person to rush in to get Alfredo out. He managed to save his life, but the fire took away Afredo’s sight. Toto then took place of Alfredo in Cinema Paradiso and was the main reason for its huge success. Toto later moved to Germany where he became a famous movie director. What effected most in Cinema Paradiso is the way it reflected the unavoidable effect of time on our lives and how small decisions can make an enormous divergence in our future lives. Had Alfredo not told Toto not to ever return to Italy and not to talk to anyone again, he might not have ended up having the successful life he attained by going and staying in Germany.

  20. "Cinema Paradiso" was a very heartwarming movie about forcefully trying to let go of the past and being unable to do so. This in itself is something out of the ordinary because usually plots revolve around the opposite. The story concentrates on the life-long relationship between Salvatore, a boy, and Alfredo, a man who projects movies in the cinema. The movie reveals the great importance of relationships; even a friendship that seems so incongruous at first. Alfredo had an impact on Toto's life like nobody else. He was the boy's role model, despite calling himself an idiot and cursing his job. It was because of this man that Toto learned his skill, that he left his village and became a huge success. The movie had a lot of symbolic details, but that didn't prevent it from being orginal. The boy who played little Toto had so much incandescent charm, I couldn't prevent myself from praising his talent every time he appeared on the screen.

  21. “Cinema Paradiso” is an absorbing movie. Told in a flashback, Salvatore remembers his childhood and his relationship with Alfredo, a projectionist at Cinema Paradiso. The movie uncovers change that happens with age and highlights the presence of religious control in a liberal society. It is a story of a child’s adventure through life with obsession, delight, despair, and love for film. As Toto grows his impression of the world changes, and the town he once left alters. It’s the story of a young boy who meets an old projectionist in a small Italian village and who learns life lessons. What I like most about the movie is the ending. Instead of stressing on the famous “happy ending”, the director instead leads his story to a more bittersweet ending. This film is sometimes amusing, sometimes enjoyable, and sometimes touching, but it's always affectionate, astonishing, and pleasing. Cinema Paradiso affects us on many levels, but its strongest link is with our memoirs.

  22. Cinema paradiso is absolutely an amazing movie. Old days were definitely different from our present days. Nowadays we can simply go whenever we want and watch a movie, whereas in the past, people used to race in order to watch the movie and we can see them parading with the tickets impatiently. Alfredo is a great man, what I loved the most about him is his big heart that can fit everyone especially Toto. Toto's mother might have been a litlle bit rough with him because she beats him alot in the movie, but I guess it's because of her pain and her loneliness without her husband. Whenever toto cries, Alfredo was always there to support him and be his father when he's in need. Toto's curiosity towards cinema Grew bigger and bigger. He kept pleading to learn how projection works until he finally learned how. During the movie I said to myself: it's good that he learned how, otherwise it might be hard to find someone to replace Alfredo when he became blind. And finally, every boy needs a father's help when he is falling in his first love, and Alfredo was the right man to go to. The movie was in general amazing but also touching.
